Du Pont FamilyThe Du Pont de Nemours family is a wealthy American family. The family rose to prominence due to the founding in 1802 of the DuPont chemical corporation by Eleuthre Irne du Pont. He and his father, Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours, were the first to emigrate from France to the United States. Pierre is credited with founding the Du Pont family dynasty. Note: There is no standard spelling of the Du Pont family name. While it is most often written as du Pont when quoting a full name (such as Pierre du Pont) and Du Pont when speaking of the family as a whole, it can also be written: Dupont, DuPont (used when speaking of the family's chemical company), duPont, and du Pont de Nemours.
