started as a presenter on the BBC Third Programme but is most famous as the very formal
announcer
on
Round the Horne
. Therein he advertised the fictional product for horses-Dobbiroids-and made a huge number of nave sound effects to assist in the devlopment of humorous and often bizarre plots. Many of his roles were inevitably inanimate objects.
