Dongying

Dongying () is a city of China, located in the Shandong province. Population: 1.79 million.

Administration

The city has direct jurisdiction over two districts, Dongying and Hekou, and three counties, Guangrao, Kenli and Lijin.

History

The city was established in 1983, as a base for developing the Yellow River Delta and the country's second largest oilfield, Shengli Oil Field. The oilfield was discovered in 1964 near a small village called Dongying, which gave its name to the city. The city is divided into two regions: West City (the commercial center), and East City (the administrative center).

Geography

Dongying city is located on the banks of the Yellow River Delta. It has an area of 8,053 square km.

Economy

A large part of the city's economy revolves around petroleum and the nearby Shengli Oil Field. Industries include: petroleum, petrochemistry, saline chemistry, papermaking, machinery, electronics, construction, building materials, foodstuff processing, textile and light industries.
