Donald H. OliverDonald H. Oliver (born November 16 1938) is a Canadian Senator. A lawyer and developer, Oliver is a member of Nova Scotia's Black minority. A long-time activist in the Progressive Conservative party, Oliver served as the party's director of legal affairs through six federal elections from 1972 until and including 1988. He has also served as a federal vice-president of the party and as a director of the PC Canada Fund. He was appointed to the Senate by Brian Mulroney in 1990. Oliver is counsel with the firm of Power, Dempsey, Cooper & Leefe in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. He has previously been a civil litigator with Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales and has taught law at the Technical University of Nova Scotia, St. Marys University and Dalhousie University Law School and also specialises in human rights, constitutional and election law and has also been involved in issues related to the African-Canadian community.
