1998

, Sherwood was elected to the
House of Representatives
as a
Republican
. He defeated
Robert Patrick Casey, Jr.
by 515 votes. Sherwood defeated Casey again in
2000
. Redistricting made Sherwood's district safer, as he won with 93% of the vote over a candidate of the
Green Party
