Dominion Super Market

Dominion refers to two separate upscale supermarket chains in Canada. The Ontario chain, which has locations primarily in the Greater Toronto Area, operates as a division of A&P, an American-based grocery retailer. Its stores average in size between 60,000 and 120,000 square feet (5,000 and 10,000 m²). Its slogan is: "We're fresh obsessed." In Newfoundland and Labrador, Dominion is the primary brand name of the major-market supermarkets of Loblaw Companies Limited, Canada's largest food retailer, which uses that brand name under licence. In all other respects, the majority of these stores operate with the same appearance and format as the company's flagship Loblaws and Atlantic Superstore supermarkets. Dominion was once a national chain operated by Dominion Stores Limited. Financial difficulties resulting from various non-retail acquisitions pushed the company into backruptcy by the 1980s; the chains noted above are the sole remnants of the Dominion brand.
