Domain Expert

A domain expert or subject matter expert (SME) is a person with special knowledge or skills in a particular area. The term can also refer to someone particularly familar with a group, or its work habits, and can act as a usability evaluator. The most common use of the term is in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially for expert systems, where the attempt is made to deduce and codify the expertise as a series of rules.
