Dom Joly

Dom Joly (full name Dominic John Joly) is a British television comedian. He is the star of Trigger Happy TV, a hidden camera show. In the 1997 UK general election he formed the Teddy Bear Alliance and changed his name to Edward 'Teddy' Bear. Hiring out hundreds of teddy bear costumes, he staged mock protests in Westminster. He has a daughter, Parker, and a second child. He was born in Beirut and hence speaks Arabic and French in addition to English. He may have gone to the to the same school as Uday Hussein and Osama Bin Laden in Beirut, but their ages differ. Joly attended The Dragon School in Oxford (where he had his shrapnel collection conviscated). Dom Joly wrote a column for the Independent on Sunday, partly covering his exodus from Notting Hill to the countryside in the West of England. His show This is Dom Joly did not follow the success of Trigger Happy TV: it was shown on the new BBC channel BBC 3, which gave it much less exposure than the major TV channels in the United Kingdom. The current (January 2005) revamp of "Trigger Happy TV" can be seen on BBC TV: it is called "World Shut Your Mouth" and the formula has been filmed at locations around the world.
