DokyuseiDōkyūsei (同級生, or Classmates) is a popular ren'ai game series by Elf. The original Dōkyūsei (also called Nanpa, meaning pick-up), released in 1992, is generally considered to be the first ren'ai game. It was followed by three sequels: Dōkyūsei 2 (Nanpa 2) and Kakyūsei (下級生, meaning Lower classmates), both of which were also very successful. There was a 4-episode OAV made from Dōkyūsei (released as End of Summer and End of Summer 2 in the English market), a 12-episode OAV was made from Dōkyūsei 2, and both an OAV and TV series from Kakyūsei. In 2004, Elf released the next in the series of games, Kakyūsei 2. A Game Boy Color mahjong game with Dōkyūsei 1 characters called Jankyusei (雀級生) was also created. (in Korean 작급생) The Dōkyūsei 2 expansion disk, (Nanpa 2 Special) Dōkyūsei 2 SP, was also made into an OVA, this expansion is also referred to as Sotsugyōsei (卒業生, meaning The Graduate). The gameplay in Dōkyūsei revolves around wandering through different locations in a town, conversing with whatever character you happen to meet. To finish with a girl, the main challenge is to learn the times of day when the girl will be in a location. There is a persistent rumor of a Dōkyūsei 3 being in planning by Elf, and a large fan demand for it. "Dokyusei" is a Japanese word which means classmate. However, not all the girl characters are classmates of the main character. The others are characters that the main character can meet in the city. Take Dokyusei 2 as example. The classmates of the main character (default name: Ryunosuke) include: - Yui (she calls Ryunosuke elder brother and she lives with him.)
- Tomomi (she has been a friend of Ryunosuke since they were children.)
- Izumi (she is a good friend of Tomomi. Ryunosuke cannot make girl-friends with them at the same time.)
- Yoko (she always quarrels with Ryunosuke.)
- Minori (she works in a tuckshop in the name of hiroko.)
- Karen (she seldom goes to school since she works as a super star.)
The following girls are not classmates of Ryunosuke: - Kozue (she is a schoolmate of Ryunosuke, two years junior)
- Misako (she is the mother of Yui and lives with Ryunosuke)
- Misato (she works as a tour guide)
- Aimi (she is a young baby-sitter)
- Misa (she comes to Ryunosuke's town during vacation. Misa is also a returning character from the first Dokyusei, being a fan favorite.)
- Sachiko (she is the owner of the Nagashima hostel in Toji Onsen)
- Kumiko (she is the daughter of Sachiko and wants to live in city instead of living in the countryside.)
- Sakurako (she is a patient of the 88 Hospital)
- Mirei (she is the class teacher of Ryunosuke)
