The constituency has an electorate of 91,522 and at present is served by 5 Teachta Dla (TDs). The method of election is the Single Transferable Vote. One of the most high profile TDs in the constituency is the current Minister for Education, Mary Hanafin. Fiona O'Malley, the daughter of Desmond O'Malley is also a newly-elected TD for the area.
