Division Of Chisholm
The
Division of Chisholm
is an
Australian Electoral Division
in
Victoria
. The division was created in
1949
and is named for
Caroline Chisholm
, a social worker and promoter of women's immigration. It is located in the eastern suburbs of
Melbourne
. Until the 1980s it was a safe
Liberal Party
seat based on
Camberwell
, but since then boundary changes have moved it south-east and made it a marginal seat, taking in the suburbs of
Box Hill
,
Burwood
and parts of
Clayton
. It has been held by the
Australian Labor Party
since
1998
. The first member for Chisholm, Sir
Wilfrid Kent Hughes
, was one of Australia's most distinguished soldiers.
