Distant Lover"Distant Lover" was a legendary recording for American soul music legend Marvin Gaye. While originally released on his legendary 1973 album, Let's Get It On album, the song took on a life of its own as a stand-out moment in Gaye's 1970s and 1980s live shows. The live recording of the song was so massive on his 1974 album, Marvin Gaye Live!, that Motown released the song, in both its 6 and a half minute glory and later a 4 and a half minute edited version, in June, 1974. The live recording became one of the most seminal live recordings in music history with Bob Marley's No Woman, No Cry and Aretha Franklin's Amazing Grace following Gaye. The song showcased that no matter how long Gaye had been in the public eye - he had been recording for over 14 years when this live recording was released - fans still gravitated to the aging (35) sex symbol as he gave the song all he had and then some. The song is about the author grieving to a lost love that has gone "so many miles away" and him begging for the girl to return home. The song peaked at #28 on Billboard's Pop singles chart and #12 on Billboard's R&B (Soul) singles chart upon its 1974 release.
