Distance Learning

Distance Learning is learning carried out apart from the usual classroom setting. Distance learning traditionally takes the form of special "learning modules" delivered to the learner via mail, completed by the student, and returned to the instructor. With the advent of the internet, a new type of learning online has become possible (see E-learning; however, this has not yet supplanted traditional distance learning). The Open University in the UK specializes in distance learning for adults. The U.S. company The Teaching Company offers lectures by top professors in over 150 subjects, recorded on VHS tape and DVD.
