Dionne Brand

Dionne Brand (born January 7, 1953 in Trinidad) is a Canadian poet, novelist, and non-fiction writer who focuses on issues relating to black women. She was born in Trinidad in and came to Canada to study at the University of Toronto. She is an active fighter for the rights of marginalized communities, especially blacks and women. Despite the similarity of their names, she should not be confused with poet Di Brandt.
