Diomede, AlaskaDiomede is a city located in Nome Census Area, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 146. Diomede is located on Little Diomede Island in the Bering Strait. Its residents are primarily of Ingalikmiut Eskimo origin. Geography Diomede is located at 65°45'35" North, 168°55'39" West (65.759836, -168.927592). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.4 km² (2.8 mi²). 7.4 km² (2.8 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 146 people, 43 households, and 31 families residing in the city. The population density is 19.8/km² (51.4/mi²). There are 47 housing units at an average density of 6.4/km² (16.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 6.16% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 92.47% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 43 households out of which 37.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 20.9% are married couples living together, 32.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% are non-families. 18.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.40 and the average family size is 4.00. In the city the population is spread out with 43.8% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 6.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 22 years. For every 100 females there are 114.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 121.6 males. The median income for a household in the city is $23,750, and the median income for a family is $24,583. Males have a median income of $41,250 versus $26,875 for females.
