DijjerDijjer is a peer-to-peer web cache. It is "pure" P2P because it relies on the computers of those using it, and is almost completely decentralized. Dijjer is similar in concept to BitTorrent but does not rely on a tracker or on a download client. It is also similar to Freenet in that it features a local web interface (listening on port 9115) that displays open connections and active downloads. For example, to download the file http://mirrors.creativecommons.org/movingimages/Mix_Tape.mov, one would instead substitute http://127.0.0.1:9115/http://mirrors.creativecommons.org/movingimages/Mix_Tape.mov to route the request through Dijjer, which will attempt to download the requested file from connected peers. The Dijjer client, having received enough data from peers or from the source URL, will push this data to the requesting application, which is generally the web browser. Its only implementation to date is written in Java and released under the GPL. It is currently an alpha version. Ian Clarke is now actively researching content distributor for a wider scale testing.
