Derek Simpson (Trade Unionist)

Derek Simpson was the surprise winner of the election to General Secretary of the AEEU, and Joint General Secretary of Amicus. He beat Tony Blair's 'favourite trade unionist' - Sir Ken Jackson. Derek was seen as the left candidate, and was backed by the broad left in the AEEU, now known as Amicus Unity Gazette. Derek was seen as a member of the Awkward Squad when elected, but is identified with the Reclaim Labour group of trade union leaders, rather than those who want to break with the Labour Party.
