Deng Ai

Deng Ai 鄧艾 was a young talented officer discovered by Sima Yi. He contributed to fighting off Shu's northern campaigns led by Jiang Wei. In 263, he took part in the war of conquering Kingdom of Shu with Zhong Huei 鍾會. Jiang Wei fended them off somewhere south of Hanzhong 漢中. Deng suggested to pass troops through Yinpin 陰平 but Zhong rejected. Deng then carried out his own plan with his son and troops and it turned out to be a great success. They eventually managed to enter Chengdu with the Shu emperor Liu Chan surrendered. However, Jiang Wei didn't want Shu to fall and he realized that Zhong wanted to rebel. They united, defamed Deng, and ordered an officer Wei Huan 衛瓘 to capture him. Jiang's plan failed and the Army killed Zhong and Jiang. These soldiers tried to rescue Deng, but Wei feared that Deng might take a revenge on him so he killed Deng.
