Delaware, Ontario

Delaware is a small community located about 10 km west of and outside of London, Ontario, within Middlesex County. Delaware stradles the Thames River. Delaware is accessed by the old highway (Highway 2) linking London and Chatham and the superhighway (Highway 402) linking Sarnia along with Port Huron and Toronto. Delaware is located NE of Chatham, SE of Port Huron and Sarnia and S of Kincardine. The community of Delaware was first founded in 1796, and was the objective of an American raid into Upper Canada in 1814 during the War of 1812, which resulted in the Battle of Longwoods, just about 24 km (15 miles) outside of Delaware. Its geography includes a few hills and forests along the Thames and the hills. The rest of the area around Delaware are farming areas.
