Defense Information Systems Agency

The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), formerly known as the Defense Communications Agency is a combat support agency of the United States Department of Defense responsible for planning, developing, fielding, operating, and supporting command, control, communications, and information systems that serve the needs of the President, the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Combatant Commanders, and other Department of Defense components under all conditions of peace and war. The Global Information Grid-Bandwidth Expansion (GIG-BE) program is in progress. It reached Initial Operational Capability (IOC) at six sites on September 30, 2004 and is planned to have Final Operational Capability (FOC) at 92 sites by September 30, 2005.
