Deerfield Residence
Deerfield
is the official residence of the
United States Ambassador
to
Ireland
, located in the
Phoenix Park
in
Dublin
. Until
1922
it had served as the residence of the
Chief Secretary for Ireland
(
in effect the prime minister in the British administration that ran Ireland until 1922
). The building was considered as a possible residence for the
President of Ireland
in 1938. It was named
Deerfield
by the wife of a United States ambassador in the 1970s because of the number of deer in the Park. Guests who have stayed there include three US presidents,
John F. Kennedy
,
Richard Nixon
and
Bill Clinton
.
