Deerfield is a town located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,678.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 135.4 km² (52.3 mi²). 131.9 km² (50.9 mi²) of it is land and 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.58% water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 3,678 people, 1,225 households, and 986 families residing in the town. The population density is 27.9/km² (72.2/mi²). There are 1,406 housing units at an average density of 10.7/km² (27.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.53% White, 0.16% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 0.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,225 households out of which 43.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.0% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.5% are non-families. 12.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.98 and the average family size is 3.27. In the town the population is spread out with 30.0% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 33.0% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 6.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.1 males. The median income for a household in the town is $61,367, and the median income for a family is $64,737. Males have a median income of $40,568 versus $30,682 for females. The per capita income for the town is $24,160. 3.2% of the population and 1.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.0% of those under the age of 18 and 10.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
