David Young, Baron Young Of Graffham

David Ivor Young, Baron Young of Graffham (born February 27, 1932) was a British Conservative politician and businessman. Educated at University College, London, he trained as a solicitor. After a series of directorships in manufacturing and retail companies, his potential was recognized by Margaret Thatcher and Keith Joseph who convinced him to become a director of the Centre for Policy Studies in 1979, followed by the chairmanship of the Manpower Services Commission (1981-4). Awarded a life peerage in 1984, taking the barony of Graffham in West Sussex, the post of Minister without Portfolio was resurrected for him after a twenty year gap. In 1985 he was made Secretary of State for Employment and in 1987 moved to Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. Young, David Young, David Young, David Young, David
