David Of Trebizond

David Comnenus (died November 1, 1463), the last ruling member of the Comnenus Dynasty which had produced such Byzantine Emperors as Alexius I, ruled the Empire of Trebizond from 1459 to 1461. In August 1461, Trebizond surrendered to the Ottoman Empire under Mehmed II, and David, who was initially spared, was sent to Constantinople and then to Adrianople. After two years, however, David was imprisoned, suspected of involvement in a plot, and subsequently executed along with members of his family, including sons and a nephew.
