David Catherwood

David Catherwood is an Irish Composer and conductor, with both vocal and choral works currently in print.

Biography

David Catherwood was born in Belfast in 1956 and joined the Salvation Army at the age of 7 through its Young People's work. He studied music at Queen's University Belfast, gaining a B.Mus.(Hons) degree, and his present post is that of Director of Music at Campbell College Belfast.

Musical Experience

He has had reasonably extensive leadership experience within the Salvation Army being Bandmaster at Belfast Temple, (1979-89) Bandmaster of the Ireland Divisional Youth Band, (1989- 93) Songster Leader at Belfast Temple (1993-94) and Bandmaster at Belfast Sydenham. (1997-01) He was involved with Music camps in Ireland for many years and in recent years has been guest at many Music Camps in Canada including Roblin Lake, Camp Newport and Camp Selkirk in Ontario and the Pine Lake camp in Alberta. Also many summers have been spent as guests of music camps in the USA in Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania. In the summer of 2003 David & Wilma Catherwood were guests at the Star Lake music camp in the USA. In addition to Band & Vocal music published by The Salvation Army various choral music is widely available in the USA published by Warner Bros., Alfred Publishing Co., and Shawnee Press amongst others. Bands that have recorded David Catherwood's music include The New York Staff band, Williams Fairey Band, the ISB and the Canadian, Chicago and Amsterdam Staff bands. Various soloists who have featured Catherwood's solos on their CDs include cornet virtuosi David Daws, Roger Webster, Philip Smith and Gordon Ward and the two euphonium players Derrick Kane and Stephen Mead. David Catherwood is married to Wilma and they are soldiers at the Belfast Temple corps of the Salvation Army where David plays in the band and Wilma sings in the Songsters. They have a daughter, Tess who plays in the YP band and sings in the Singing Co. Catherwood, David Catherwood, David
