Dark Compact

The idea of a dark compact springs from literature, particularly of the horror fiction and fantasy genres. Dark compacts are colloquially known as "deals with the devil". Such deals almost invariably involve extremely strict interpretation of rules and manipulation of language by the contractor. Most common plot lines are:
  • Devastating consequences for the contractee.
  • Comical consequences for the contractee.
  • Attempts of the "victim" to cheat the contractor.
