Danish Peoples Party

The Danish Peoples Party is a populist anti-immigration right wing party, often seen as Euronationalist. It attracted 12 percent of the vote in the 2001 election. While it was excluded from the conservative coalition government, its surprise success meant that the Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen passed restrictive asylum legislation, which was followed by a halving of asylum applications. Unlike similar parties it has been careful in its foreign connections, and has been at pains to moderate its language. Due to this moderation unlike similar populist, anti-immigration parties of attracting British Conservative members of the European Parliament as speakers at its meetings.
