Dames Quarter, MarylandDames Quarter is a census-designated place located in Somerset County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 188. Geography Dames Quarter is located at 38°10'26" North, 75°54'23" West (38.173887, -75.906291). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 47.3 km² (18.3 mi²). 32.2 km² (12.4 mi²) of it is land and 15.1 km² (5.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 31.91% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 188 people, 84 households, and 54 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 5.8/km² (15.1/mi²). There are 132 housing units at an average density of 4.1/km² (10.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 84.04% White, 11.70% African American, 2.13% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.60% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 84 households out of which 22.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% are married couples living together, 10.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% are non-families. 32.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.24 and the average family size is 2.85. In the CDP the population is spread out with 19.1% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 30.3% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 97.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 117.1 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $41,458, and the median income for a family is $44,464. Males have a median income of $50,000 versus $36,875 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $19,448. 11.2% of the population and 10.4% of families are below the poverty line.
