Dalton is a borough located in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, USA. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 1,294.

Geography

Dalton is located at 41°32'8" North, 75°44'6" West (41.535597, -75.735090). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 8.2 km² (3.2 mi²). 8.0 km² (3.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.90% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,294 people, 500 households, and 357 families residing in the borough. The population density is 161.2/km² (417.4/mi²). There are 519 housing units at an average density of 64.6/km² (167.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 99.15% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. 0.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 500 households out of which 34.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% are married couples living together, 9.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.4% are non-families. 25.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.08. In the borough the population is spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.3 males. The median income for a household in the borough is $47,625, and the median income for a family is $65,577. Males have a median income of $41,964 versus $30,583 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $25,760. 6.9% of the population and 5.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.8% of those under the age of 18 and 7.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
