Dahesh Museum
The
Dahesh Museum
is the only
museum
in the
United States
devoted to the collection and exhibition of
European
academic art
. The collection originated with
Lebanese
writer and philosopher Salim Moussa Achi, pen name Dr. Dahesh. The museum opened to the public in
1995
at a 1,800 foot gallery on
Fifth Avenue
in
New York City
. In
2002
, it moved to a new 30,000 foot space at 580
Madison Avenue
.
