D20 Modern

d20 Modern is a role-playing game designed by Bill Slavicsek, Jeff Grubb, Rich Redman, and Charles Ryan. It was published by Wizards of the Coast in 2002, and uses the d20 System. The game provides a toolbox for staging campaigns in a range of modern settings.

Classes

d20 Modern presents a starting character with the choice of six classes: Strong hero, Fast hero, Tough hero, Smart hero, Dedicated hero, and charismatic Hero. The basic classes correspond to six ability scores used in the d20 System. Later, after meeting certain requirements, a character can take levels in advanced classes. The advanced classes are much more specific and examples include Soldier and Field Medic.

Skills and Feats

Each character can spend ranks purchasing skills. Skills quantify how good a character is at a non-combat action, such as swimming or using a computer. Feats are special abilities a character gains. A feat could allow a character to perform a special combat maneuver or enhance the use of a skill.

Equipment

A character can purchase or otherwise obtain a various array of items. Many real world objects are quantified in game terms, such as firearms or automobiles. d20 Modern uses an abstract system for tracking wealth.

Campaign Settings

d20 Modern presents three sample campaign settings. These settings, unlike the rest of the book, feature the supernatural.

Shadow Chasers

Evil monsters roam free around the world. However, most people don't see these monsters for what they really are. For example, an ogre will appear to the average person as burly man. The heroes are one of a select few who can see through this veil, and it is there responsibility to fight off the evil.

Agents of Psi

Government agents with psychic powers. While magic doesn't exists, a psychic force called psionics does. Characters work for a government agency investigating (or using) this supernatural force.
