cruzado (dict)

Cruzado

The Cruzado was the monetary unit of Brazil from 1986 to 1990. The Cruzado replaced one version of the cruzeiro and was itself replaced by another version of the cruzeiro. It, like the cruzeiro, was divided into 100 centavos. In 1986, one cruzado was set equal to 1000 (new) cruzeiros. In 1989, the cruzado was reissued, with 1000 old cruzados set equal to one new cruzado. In 1990, the cruzado was renamed the cruzeiro.
