Crowsnest Pass, Alberta

The Municipality of Crowsnest Pass, located in Alberta, Canada, consists of six towns (from east to west): Bellview, Hillcrest, Frank, Blairmore, Coleman, and Crowsnest. Blairmore and Coleman are the largest of the towns, and Frank and Crowsnest are the smallest. It is a community sadly known for tragedy and is sometimes referred to as Danger Alley. In 1904 the tip of Turtle Mountain broke loose and decmated part of the town of Frank. It has become known as the Frank Slide. Later, the largest mining disaster in Canadian history happened in the Hillcrest Mine. In the summer of 2003, forest fires nearly wiped out the whole area. It is an area of high winds and beautiful mountains belying the danger of the past.
