Crows Nest, New South WalesCrows Nest is the name of a suburb of Sydney, Australia. Crows Nest is located about 5 kilometers north of downtown Sydney, on the lower North Shore. It is shared between the North Sydney, Willoughby and Lane Cove local government areas. The original Crows Nest House was on the land now occupied by North Sydney Demonstration School. In 1819, Edward Wollstonecraft received a grant of 524 acres (2.1 km²) around the areas known today as Crows Nest and Wollstonecraft. He named the grant "Crows Nest Farm" and called the residence "Crows Nest", which according to his associate Alexander Berry, was "on account of its elevated and commanding position". The gates of Crows Nest House still stand at the highway entrance to the school. Crows Nest business area is located on the highest point of land in the area, about 1km NNW of the original Crows Nest House, and at the junction of five main roads. Crows Nest is a significant commercial and retail area. It is noted for its varied collection of restaurants.
