Crossdock

  Cross-docking
A term used in supply chain logistics management, denoting a transit shipment facility in which incoming shipments are sorted, consolidated with other shipments and transferred directly onto outgoing transport implements without intermediate storage or order picking. Albeit crossdocking is much hyped on, it has never really been defined. Generally it is associated with the "just-in-time" (J.I.T.) inventory concept, which is characterized by delivery of items used for production exactly when they are needed, thus minimizing inventory and associated costs such as warehousing costs. Crossdocking is used to decrease inventory storage by streamlining the flow between the supplier and the manufacturer. It can be operated by any shipment facility with an inbound/outbound setup.
