Crdoba, Veracruz

Crdoba (founded in 1617) is a city in Veracruz, central Mexico. It was named after Diego Fernndez de Crdoba. It is the focal point for the local sugar milling and coffee processing industries. Additionally Crdoba is an important place for marketing and refining tropical fruits. In August 1821, the Mexican revolutionary Agustn de Iturbide and the Spanish viceroy Juan de O'Donoj signed the Treaty of Crdoba here, ratifying the Plan de Iguala and confirming Mexico's independence. In 1973 the city was severely damaged by an earthquake. With a population of 130,695 (1990), Crdoba is also one of the top tourist spots in the region. It is located on Federal Highways 190 and 180. Neighbouring cities are Naranjal, Fortn and Ixtaczoquitln.
