Craigievar Castle
is a
castle
near
Alford
in the former
Grampian
region of
Scotland
. An excellent example of Scottish Baronial architecture, the great seven-storey tower of the castle was completed in
1626
by the
Aberdonian
merchant
William Forbes
, ancestor to the
Forbes-Sempill family
. As of
1963
, the castle, its estate, and 60 acres (240,000 m²) of adjoining farmlands are owned by the
National Trust for Scotland
. They are open to tourists during the summer months.
