CourantCourant was a common word for "newspaper" in the 18th century, apparently spreading from the Netherlands, where it is still widely used, and then to England and America. Benjamin Franklin's brother James began a New England Courant in Boston. The Hartford Courant, founded in 1764, is the oldest continuously published newspaper in the United States. Courant can be a last name, see the mathematician Richard Courant. Courant is a commune of the Charente-Maritime dpartement, in France. The Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University.
