Cottle County, Texas

Cottle County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 1,904. Its county seat is Paducah6. Cottle is named for George Washington Cottle, who died defending the Alamo.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,335 km² (902 mi²). 2,334 km² (901 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.05% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 81.46% White, 9.87% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 7.20% from other races, and 1.47% from two or more races. 18.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 820 households out of which 28.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.90% are married couples living together, 10.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.90% are non-families. 32.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.28 and the average family size is 2.84. In the county, the population is spread out with 23.90% under the age of 18, 5.70% from 18 to 24, 21.50% from 25 to 44, 23.30% from 45 to 64, and 25.60% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 87.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.90 males. The median income for a household in the county is $25,446, and the median income for a family is $33,036. Males have a median income of $24,375 versus $16,667 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,212. 18.40% of the population and 13.70% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 28.40% of those under the age of 18 and 16.00% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
