Cotroceni

Cotroceni is a neighbourhood in Bucharest, Romania located around the Cotroceni hill, in the 6th district of Western Bucharest. The Hill of Cotroceni was once covered by the forest of Vlăsia, which covered most of today's Bucharest. Here, in 1679 a monastery was built Şerban Cantacuzino, later to be transformed into a palace in 1888. The Cotroceni Palace, the official residence of the Romanian president is located in this neighbourhood, as well as the Bucharest Botanical Garden (which has an area of 10,5 hectares), the Bucharest Opera building and the Bucharest Municipal Hospital. The nearest Metro stations are Eroilor and Politehnica.
