Cosmo Lang

Cosmo Gordon Lang, Baron Lang of Lambeth (1864-1945) was Archbishop of York (1908-1928) and Archbishop of Canterbury (1928-1942). He was among those who in 1927 proposed a major revision to the Book of Common Prayer, an effort which was permanently stymied by Parliament. As Archbishop of Canterbury, he and Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin were leaders among those who successfully called for the 1936 abdication of Edward VIII.
