Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 104.0 km² (40.2 mi²). 104.0 km² (40.2 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 2,511 people, 959 households, and 715 families residing in the town. The population density is 24.1/km² (62.5/mi²). There are 1,040 housing units at an average density of 10.0/km² (25.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.17% White, 0.08% African American, 0.64% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.48% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 0.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 959 households out of which 33.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.0% are married couples living together, 9.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% are non-families. 18.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 2.91. In the town the population is spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.2 males. The median income for a household in the town is $37,318, and the median income for a family is $41,016. Males have a median income of $31,715 versus $25,071 for females.
