Copperas Cove is a city located in Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 29,592.

Geography

Copperas Cove is located at 31°7'11" North, 97°54'6" West (31.119700, -97.901749). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 36.1 km² (13.9 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 29,592 people, 10,273 households, and 8,023 families residing in the city. The population density is 820.2/km² (2,124.9/mi²). There are 11,120 housing units at an average density of 308.2/km² (798.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 65.36% White, 20.43% African American, 0.87% Native American, 2.70% Asian, 0.58% Pacific Islander, 4.98% from other races, and 5.09% from two or more races. 11.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 10,273 households out of which 47.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.2% are married couples living together, 12.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.9% are non-families. 16.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.85 and the average family size is 3.19. In the city the population is spread out with 32.0% under the age of 18, 14.2% from 18 to 24, 33.3% from 25 to 44, 15.4% from 45 to 64, and 5.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 27 years. For every 100 females there are 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.3 males. The median income for a household in the city is $37,869, and the median income for a family is $40,517. Males have a median income of $26,406 versus $22,270 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,995. 9.6% of the population and 8.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 13.7% of those under the age of 18 and 5.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
