Contemplative ImagesIntroduction Contemplative Images is an independent film company. Unlike those of most other production companies, all of CI's projects have had budgets of $0. History Contemplative Images was started back in the Winter of 2002 by high school students Nathan Sage and David Tsai. The then unnamed "crew" was working on a feature length production called The Schvingter and consisted of three members: Nathan, David, and friend Matthew Stephens. Although the project was never completed, it set a bar for the group: one that is constantly being raised with each continuing project. During the production of The Man With The Golden Arm, a French class video project, the name "Midnight Movies" was born thanks to cast member Lester Galang who joked about how Nathan and David had always worked well past midnight in order to finish their films. The name had a nice ring, was funny, and most importantly, had a sexual innuendo - so it stuck. This also explains the obsession with images of the moon. The name "Contemplative Images" was coined during the filming of Event Horizon and was based on cast member Isaiah Sage's character: a beatnik conjuring up contemplative images. However, the name was not officially used until near the completion of the short film, This Is A Test, when it was deemed that the Google searches for the previous name resulted in too many "mis-matches." Trivia - The Contemplative Images and Midnight Movies introductory animatics contain references to the moon, resembling a certain competitor's logos. However, the similarities are purely coincidental and were not discovered until after the creation of the sequences.
