Condon ReportThe United States Air Force performed several investigations on the nature of UFOs: a) Project Sign, from 1947 to 1948; Project Grudge from 1948 to 1952; b) Project Blue Book from 1952 to 1969. These studies and the associated reports were at first classified, but have now largely been declassified and are publicly available (e.g. Blue Book http://www.bluebookarchive.org/ ). The Air Force, under pressure from Congress after a public outcry at the handling of one of the most extensive flaps in US history, organized an "Ad Hoc Committee to Review Project Blue Book," which convened in February 1966. Its members were Brian O'Brien (chairman), Launor Carter, Jesse Orlansky, Richard Porter, Carl Sagan, and Willis A. Ware. They recommended that the Air Force negotiate contracts "with a few selected universities to provide selected teams to investigate promptly and in depth certain selected sightings of UFOs." This led finally (in Oct 1966) to an Air Force contract being awarded to the University of Colorado. Director was Professor Edward U. Condon, a very distinguished physicist and a man of strong and independent character. A good analysis of the report and is given at http://www.ufoskeptic.org/sturrock/toc.html
