Community Oriented PolicingCommunity oriented policing is a concept whereby the police department of a particular community is seen as a viable member of the community in which the officers reside. Cities and counties that subscribe to this particular philosophy of policing tend to do much more community work than traditional police departments. This often includes having more police officers who "walk the beat" as opposed to driving around in cars, which is seen as more personal. The basic idea is to encourage community involvement in policing their cities and to create bonds between police and the public.
