Commonwealth Star

The Commonwealth Star, or the Star of Federation, is a seven-pointed star found under the flag of the United Kingdom (Union Flag or "Union Jack") on the Flag of Australia, and also on the crest of the Coat-of-arms of Australia. Six of the points on the star represent the original six states of Australia, and one point represents the territories of Australia. On the flag, the star is centred at the midpoint of the lower left canton; the star's outer diameter is 3/10 the width of the hoist and, in turn, the inner diameter is 4/9 of the star's outer diameter. The original Flag of Australia of 1903 had a six-pointed Commonwealth Star. It was changed to seven points in 1908 to include the territories of Australia.
