Committees Of Correspondence For Democracy And SocialismThe Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism is a democratic socialist group in the United States which originated in 1992 as the Committees of Correspondence, a moderate, dissenting wing of the Communist Party USA. Named after the committees of correspondence of the American Revolution, the group was critical of the leadership of CPUSA leader Gus Hall and argued that in light of the collapse of the Soviet Union the party should reject Leninism and adopt a more moderate democratic socialist orientation. The movement was led by former CPUSA official Gil Green. Failing to win over the CPUSA, the group left the party and held conferences to establish a new organization including independent leftists and socialists from outside of the CPUSA tradition or who had left the CPUSA over its policies. In 2000 the group changed its name to the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism. External links
