Commander CodyCommando Cody was the hero in three science-fiction serials made around 1950 by Republic Pictures, and a 1952 feature movie based on the series titled The Lost Planet Airmen. The serials include King of the Rocket Men (1949) - which some call the last of Republic's good serials, as this format from the early days of radio was falling victim to television - and Radar Men from the Moon (1952). They are best known today for having been regularly mocked on the program Mystery Science Theater 3000. The character is often misidentified as "Commander Cody".
Commander Cody is the stage name of George Frame in the American rock and roll band Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen, which took its name from the 1952 movie. The group, formed in 1967 and disbanded in the late 1970s, is best known for its 1972 rendition of the song Hot Rod Lincoln.
Commander Cody is a character from the Star Wars saga, created for and played by Temuera Morrison. Commander Cody was a clone trooper commander grown on Kamino. Part of the Army of the Republic, Cody led a regiment of clone troopers on Utapau, during the search for General Grievous. During the Clone Wars, Cody befriended General Obi-Wan Kenobi, though when Emperor Palpatine turned his clone troopers against the Jedi, Kenobi was forced to strike down Cody. Given that Star Wars was inspired by the movie serials of the 1940s, the character was most likely named in honor of Commando Cody, above.
