Colleen L. Fraser

Colleen L. Fraser (???? - September 11, 2001) lived in New Jersey where she started work in 1980 at Community Access Unlimited as a counselor, eventually becoming the president of the board. In 1990 the Governor of New Jersey appointed her as the chairperson for the New Jersey Developmental Disabilities Council where she served for five years. In July of 2001, she was elected to the vice-chair position by the Council. She was also hired as executive director of the Progressive Center for Independent Living in New Jersey. Born with an inherited disorder, Colleen underwent multiple childhood surgeries to allow her to walk. After being persuaded to work as a counselor for others with disabilities, she started her lifelong advocacy for the rights of disabled people in New Jersey and elsewhere in the United States Fraser died at 51 in the crash of United Airlines flight 93 in the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack. She was heading to a seminar on grant writing to assist her in her position with PCIL. Fraser had a lifelong fear of flying. She is survived by her sister, Christine.
